Check procession schedules and use tracking apps

Before you go, look up the Semana Santa schedule for the days you'll be in town and install a procession-tracking app (examples: El Penitente). That lets you avoid or plan to see specific processions and find quieter routes around closures.

Do major sightseeing early in the morning

Visit the Cathedral, Alcázar, Plaza de España and other popular sites first thing (opening hours) when crowds are smaller. Many locals recommend getting attractions done before processions begin mid-day and into the evening.

Have a Plan B — stay outside the historic center or pick alternate towns

If you want a relaxed visit, consider booking accommodation outside Casco Antiguo or taking day trips to nearby places (Cádiz, Córdoba, smaller Sierra/white villages, Itálica, Arcos de la Frontera). Smaller towns often feel less overwhelmed.

Expect crowds, closures and limited taxi access

Historic center streets can be blocked and filled with people; taxis may not reach the center and can be hard to find. If you need a late-night airport transfer, leave much earlier than usual and plan a meeting point outside procession zones.

Make restaurant and attraction reservations; be flexible

Bars and restaurants will be very busy and some businesses change hours. Reserve tables and timed tickets in advance where possible and be prepared for detours and delays if a procession crosses your path.

If you’re traveling with kids or prefer calm, avoid peak procession times

Families and those who prefer a low-stress visit should steer clear of the busiest procession hours (afternoon into night, and key days like La Madrugá). Use mornings, riverside promenades, Alameda de Hércules, parks, or quieter neighbourhoods to escape the crowds.
